Death is not part of the organisation. The organisation doesn't die; it merely sheds skin. It sheds you and I, when we leave, when we retire, when we die. The organisation shed Charles, yesterday. One minute he was well; the next he was in a coma. He came around, but then relapsed and was gone. But the organisation carried on. We walked our corridors, still; we stopped and talked (sometimes about Charles). We were individuals - managers and workers - ready to be shed, when the time came. |
